| “RSPCA Good Business Awards 2009 Devon restaurant shortlisted as UK's most ethical eatery Devon restaurant ODE has beaten off stiff competition from restaurants around the UK to be named a finalist in the restaurant category of this year's RSPCA Good Business Awards, which recognise business approaches to higher animal welfare. ODE, in the village of Shaldon, was chosen because of its local sourcing policy One of the judges, TV presenter and journalist Richard Johnson, says: "Recent TV programmes highlighting the plight of chickens and pigs have meant that people are increasingly aware of the origin of the food they buy and want to be assured of the animal welfare credentials of the restaurants and pubs they chose to eat at. “This is why our finalists, who are making real efforts to use suppliers who rear their animals with humanity, deserve our support and recognition.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “SOUTH WEST RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR 2008” from TASTE OF THE WEST GOLD award in the Restaurant class in Devon 2008 from TASTE OF THE WEST We are delighted to announce that for the 2nd consecutive year, competing with competition from 6 counties in the region ODE has won this prestigious award from “Taste of the West” - Championing the South West’s exceptional food identity Sumary from the county judges "Everything about your food is excellent; presentation, flavour, the quality and freshness of ingredients used and how well it was cooked. So too was the quality and speed of service, the knowledge of your staff, the value for money and your perceived commitment to regional sourcing!" Sumary from the regional judges. "The meal was superbly cooked by the owner and very delicious. It is a brilliant example of adventurous cooking using wonderful quality local and seasonal produce. ODE understand what seasonal food means – the vegetables used were particularly good in quality and interest. With regard to the menu, we wanted to taste everything! It was very well balanced with a good choice of fish and meat and the vegetarian dishes sounded very appetising. " ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ EAT OUT MAGAZINE (JULY 2009 & 2008) ODE recognised as one of the elite 100 restaurants in the United Kingdom Regularly there is an increasing number of Guides and award ceremonies acknowledging the top restaurants right across the UK with venues keen to be named. From these listings the national magazine Eat Out has researched its own ultimate Top 100. Letter from the chairman "From all of us here at Eat Out Magazine, we would like you to convey our admiration to the whole of your team in providing a magnificent service that has singled you out as one of this country's best of the best restaurants." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FINALIST BEST ORGANIC RESTAURANT - THE NATURAL AND ORGANICS AWARDS 2008 Some of the judges comments, "Range of food & ingredients from the menu were carefully selected from organic origins mainly soil association, local & keen use of what is best on offer in the local area with seasonality taken into account. Quality was perfection, one could taste all the individual flavours used in the recipe. The best food i have tasted in a restaurant! ODE has set a bench mark for others to follow in the commitment to organic principles & this is totally reflected in the dining experience from moment of entering ambience with the introduction of ODE’S commitment of Organic Food to the final organic coffee or tea." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SOUTH WEST RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR 2007 from TASTE OF THE WEST GOLD award in the Restaurant class in Devon 2007 from TASTE OF THE WEST Judges were particularly impressed with the exquisite food, charming and knowledgeable service and the owners obvious passion for locally sourced seasonal ingredients. Comments from the Devon judges, "Exceptional quality and exciting combinations using the best local produce. Shaldon has a little gem of a restaurant. The service was friendly and relaxed and the chef cooks to a very high standard. I will definitely go back and have been recommending it ever since! " Comments from the Regional judges, "Absolutely excellent. Exquisite food, beautifully cooked and presented.
