SOUTH DEVON CRAB - visit south devon
South Devon crab will be the focus for a major new national food tourism campaign which is being launched by the Visit South Devon tourism partnership and the celebrity seafood chef and award-winning restaurateur Mitch Tonks. Renowned Shaldon- based chef Tim Bouget who runs ODE restaurant in Shaldon is also backing the campaign to promote South Devon crab.
Mitch Tonks will be launching the “Have a cracking time in South Devon” campaign from his renowned seafood restaurant The Seahorse in Dartmouth. Mitch believes that South Devon crab is unique and that it will be a great hit with visitors to the area.
The Have a cracking time in South Devon”campaign will encourage visitors from across the UK to come to South Devon to enjoy one of most delicious yet undervalued great natural local resources, South Devon crab.
Two thousand tonnes of crab are landed in the Start Bay area every year yet more than sixty percent of the crab is exported to France and Spain. South Devon crab is believed to be the best in the world and its stocks are plentiful and sustainably fished. Brown crabs and spider crabs are fished in pots in South Devon but the majority that are landed are brown crab. This season starts in May and brown crabs are at their best during the autumn months when they are at their fullest.

Fish and Seafood
We are very specific with the fish we choose for the restaurant, only purchasing sustainable fish which is guided by Marine Conservation Society using the Fishonline guide.
Ben (fish with ben) catches our shore caught sea bass and mackerel. Tim and Micky our wild salmon, salmon peel and mackerel during the season. Trevor and the boys in Teignmouth our sand eels. We get our spider crab, crab, lobsters and hand dived scallops from Rob at thje seafood house in Teignmouth and other local fisherman catch a selection from around the bay and estuary in Shaldon. Barry Sessions and his team hand pick mussels, from the Teign which are of the finest quality due to the unique tidal currents in the estuary.
We also use a family run company called Britannia Shellfish which are based near the seafront at Beesands.

Devonia water is bottled at source in a peaceful valley in South Devon. The spring is in the old village of Beeson and has been in use for over 300 years, offering truly refreshing tasting water.
They started recycling 6 years ago, as the need to stop wasting glass became more important, making them one of the only Spring Water Company that takes the bottles back to recycling them. We all have an obligation to preserve our environment and every little helps.
Montezuma Chocolate

EXETER FESTIVAL OF SOUTH WEST FOOD AND DRINK
The Festival is held each year in the regal courtyard of Exeter Castle and the surrounding Northernhay Gardens, in the centre of Exeter. It traditionally takes place over three days, with two evening Festival After Dark Events featuring live music, chef demos and a great atmosphere.
EDEN PROJECT CAFE
The new eco cafe in St Austell's White River Place development brings a little bit of Eden to the town centre with their distinctive quirky touch, and of course, their ethics and environmental credentials.
As well as serving delicious local food and drink, the cafe also provides a space for arts exhibitions, music and community group meetings. As you'd expect with Eden, the cafe was built and fitted out to high environmental standards.
PLYMOUTH FLAVOUR FEST REGIONAL FOOD AND DRINK FESTIVAL
A major part of the Plymouth Summer Festival, Flavour Fest takes place over a weekend in August in the city centre Piazza and is a highlight of the south west’s food and drink calendar. Running from the Big Screen to Place de Brest, Flavour Fest has more than 100 food stalls packed with tasty offerings from fine food producers all across the south west.
DARTMOUTH FOOD FESTIVAL
The Dartmouth Food Festival first took place in 2002 in Dartmouth's Market Square. There were only a handful of stalls but a huge amount of enthusiasm from local restaurants, hotels and producers. Over the last 8 years, it's developed into a major food event that draws around 10,000 people into Dartmouth over the main 3 days (Friday/Saturday/Sunday). Our aim is to showcase the best that South Devon has to offer - from Riverford Farm produce through to Sharpham wines, Shute Fruit jams and South Devon crab. The festival committee is voluntary but we're all committed to making the Dartmouth Food Festival the food and drink event of South Devon.

Shaldon pre school is a registered non profit making charity and a great asset to the village community. They provide great quality childcare for 3 - 4 year olds in a safe, secure and stimulating enviroment. For the younger children they also run a mother toddler group once a week.
